Bantham Sand is a popular surfing beach below the mouth of the River Avon in South Devon. There are fine views looking east to Bigbury and Burgh Island. There is also good coast path walking south to Broad Sand, Yarmouth Sand and Leas Foot Sand (as shown in these photos) and further south to Thurlestone and Hope Cove. Photos from a fine Sunday in May, including photos of the River Avon.
Redruth is a large Cornish town with an industrial past of which there are reminders in the town centre including the tin miner statue and Murdock’s House, home of inventor William Murdock who made the first locomotive in 1784. A few miles west of Redruth, is the mining heritage centre of Heartlands. Centred around a restored engine house, there is parkland, gardens and a visitor centre. Photos are from a fine Sunday morning in April.
